Gary Vaynerchuk At It Again - PHCC

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I know the last post was a video from Gary Vaynerchuk, but I have to post another one because these are really golden nuggets of info.  I’m working on a new podcast project all about success for geeks/nerds and these pointers will come in handy while we build it up.  One of my next posts will be a poll to help me pick the title of the podcast so I will keep you posted on how that is going.  But in the mean time, watch this video and let me know what you think.  Can you make the idea of PHCC work for you?

Gary Vay*ner*chuk’s Better than Zero

Gary released an awesome video on his blog talking about how many people see the things he does and almost scoff. He does simple stuff like leaving comments on blogs he likes. Posting a forum post. Just doing the stuff that reaches one or two people because it is better than zero. There are quite a few marketing and efficiency “experts” that say you shouldn’t waste your time with small things like that and only go for the big things. What do you think about what Gary has to say in this video? Leave a comment.

My Post Dragon*Con 2008 Thoughts

IMG_1135.JPGI will never miss Dragon*Con again if at all possible. It was the best convention I have ever been to. I don’t know if it was all the awesome geekout worthy stars that just wandered around the con and were actually friendly, or if it was the amazing people that I met from the podcasting track.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make my steampunk version of The Tick this year, but I have plenty of time to get it done by next year. I also have some other people here who are going to hold me accountable for that.

Anyway onto my thoughts on the experiences I had at Dragon*Con. I got to meet a bunch of my favorite authors like Scott Sigler, J.C. Hutchins, Tee Morris, Philippa Ballantine, Mur Lafferty, and many more. I could easily keep going, but I don’t want to bore you with names. Everyone was so nice and easy to talk to. They through some fun parties too. One of the highlights of the weekend was when I got to play photograhper for Steve Saylor. He landed an interview with Morena Baccarin(Inara from Firefly). I want to thank him again for letting me help out during the interview. Because of him I got a picture with Morena.

There was also a really fun Dr. Horrible sing-a-long, which apparently had about 3000 people show up for it. It was the first official Dr. Horrible sing-a-long event ever and not only did they play the video for it, they also had people on stage to reenact it.

The costumes that people were wearing were amazing. Lots of steampunk, which I love. You can see the pictures I took in my Dragon*Con 2008 Flickr Set.

Make sure to leave a comment about your thoughts on Dragon*Con.

The MacJournal Test

This will be my first post with a new piece of software I got as part of a bundle over at MUPromo. I wanted to give it a try before I really started working on my upcoming Post Dragon*Con post. Maybe that is a one too many posts…but anyway… Hopefully this will display properly and I can use this to write blog posts from now on. Usually I use ScribeFire, and that is pretty nice, but with this I don’t have to have an internet connection at all. Maybe I will bounce back and forth and eventually write a head-to-head review. Thanks for your patience, and if you have much experience with MacJournal, please leave some feedback in the comments.

Update: Ok I know they are still working on the blog aspect of MacJournal, but I am editing this from Scribefire. I had a picture in the post, but apparently it didn’t like that and something messed up because all I saw was the alt text. I think with a bit more work it will be quite viable, but for now ScribeFire reigns supreme in my book. I also couldn’t figure out how to view the HTML it was going to output. I like to do that, just to make sure it is good HTML and I didn’t screw up anything.
